Team Rides Start Tuesday May 1

The normal Tu/Th lakefront rides will start May 1. Here are the very simple guidelines if you’re new to the group:

  • we meet every Tuesday and Thursday on the lakefront path at the first bench south of the chess boards and the North Ave underpass
  • The group leaves at 6 a.m. Not 6:01, 6:02 or 6:03, but 6. Some of us have to get to work
  • we head south and most of the group turns around at 55th Street
  • typically, 0 to 5 riders show. If you’re there at 6 at no one else shows, you’re riding solo that day
  • All abilities are welcome – of course that doesn’t mean anyone will wait for you ;)
  • The more the merrier - you’re free to invite anyone as long as they are not stronger than me and they are not annoying
  • The terms ‘team’ and ‘group’ are used very loosely
  • Remember - it’s not about speed or strength, it’s how you look on the bike and how much you spend on gear

Announcing The Team First Bench Inaugural Training Camp.

Have you always wanted to attend a bike camp for a week but that pesky career or whiny family got in the way?   Well this year we have a solution – Team First Bench Training Camp.  One week of riding the entire lakefront every day, M-F at a nice easy base-building pace with a long ride or Saturday. That should give you about 250 miles in week one and barely make you late for work – what a deal. Here are the details:

  •  starting Monday April 23, we’ll meet every day that week at 5:30 a.m. at the bench and ride the entire lakefront path
  • we’ll head north to start
  • turn around at Hollywood and head south to 71st
  • turn around and head home
  • we’ll top off the week by joining the triple X ride on Saturday. It meets at Wicker Park and turns around at Highland Park for just under 50 miles with options to go further
  • sunrise April 23 is at 5:57 so you won’t have to ride in the dark – much. There are only a few dark spots on the path but get some lights.
